SHELBURNE, VT - The Rev. Patricia "Pat" Harwick, who served on the Connecticut Conference staff as Minister of Mission and Stewardship from 1983 to 1990, passed away on Jan. 27. She was 74.
The Rev. Harwick began her professional career as a psychology instructor in a law enforcement program at the University of New Haven, but felt a calling to ministry. She completed an MS in Divinity at Yale, and her first calling following ordination was to the Connecticut Conference (her name was the Rev. Patricia A. Sommers when she served the Conference.)
After leaving the Conference, she joined with her husband, Ray Harwick in helping churches through a fundraising ministry. Over the next 20 years, their team approach assisted churches in raising over $200 million for infrastructure, mission, and programs.
The Rev. Harwick is survived by her husband Ray; son Robin Sommers with wife Cassandra and granddaughters Riley and Gillian; and daughter Guinevere Leeder with husband Jeff and grandchildren Paul and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her sister Gail Anderson and will be missed by her two cats, Abby and Shaggy.
A celebration of her life was held Saturday, Feb. 10, at the First Congregational Church in Burlington, VT. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Vermont Youth Orchestra.
