Global Ministries Missionary the Rev. Michael Joseph joined Conference Minister the Rev. Kent Siladi for a conversation, live-streamed over the CTUCC YouTube channel and recorded. Rev. Joseph, who has served in the South American nation of Colombia for eight years, emphasized the deep relationship between that country and the United States, encouraging people to ask, "Am I comfortable with how this relationship is going? Are my values being expressed through US policy in Colombia?"
Colombia has suffered civil war for nearly fifty years, with armed actors including the government, left-wing revolutionary groups, and right-wing paramilitaries. Rev. Joseph has coordinated a civil rights documentation program that has now recorded over a thousand human rights violations — one he knows is nowhere near complete.
The Connecticut Conference has worked in an ecumenical partnership with Evangelical Council of Colombia since 2001.
