A resolution passed at the 2017 CT UCC Annual Meeting designated the Sunday before November 20 as "Transgender Remembrance Sunday." In observance of the Transgender Remembrance Sunday on November 19, we invite you to join us for a free screening of "A Self-Made Man." which premiered at the Provincetown International Film Festival in 2013.
Jointly sponsored by United Church on the Green and the New Haven Pride Center, this extraordinary documentary interweaves the poignant personal story and important life work of Connecticut resident Tony Ferraiolo with his life work as a transgender youth advocate.
We watch Tony guide kids as young as 8, and their parents, through the confusing journey of defining themselves, when their physical appearance conflicts with how they view themselves. Recommended for high school and up.
Tony has graciously agreed to join us for the event and to lead a Q&A session following the film. Whether you or your best friend is trans, or whether you have never met a transgender person, this is a film and discussion not to be missed.
Doors open at 5. Free parking on downtown New Haven streets on Sunday. The meetinghouse is handicapped accessible.
There is no charge to attend this event, but a free will offering will be taken to benefit The Jim Collins Foundation.
