Library Assistant Alan Munshower (rt.) and Jennifer deSimas, Director of J.P. Webster Library pack resources from Hartford
In a letter to patrons on January 23, Karen Ziel, Minister of Faith Formation and Leadership of the Connecticut Conference ,UCC, stated that the Ruth Dudley Resource Center will become the Ruth Dudley Collection at J.P. Webster Library. Staff have already begun transferring resources from the Conference Offices in Hartford to the newly renovated J.P. Webster Library at First Church of Christ in West Harford.

"This collection will be maintained and updated," said Ziel.  "The Director of the library, Ms. Jennifer deSimas, is willing and able to meet your resource needs."

The Ruth Dudley Resource Center was named for Ruth Dudley who served the Conference from 1971-1985. Dudley was devoted to Christian faith formation and the center was named in her honor as one way to continue her good work of equipping saints. The center offers resources for many ministries in faith communities to laity, leaders and authorized ministers.

In January, Conference Minister the Rev. Kent Siladi and the Rev. Scott Morrow, senior pastor of North Haven Congregational Church, visited Dudley to share the news of this relocation. Dudley was pleased to hear about the plans and to know that the legacy will continue in this new way.

Patrons will continue to search the Ruth Dudley catalog via the CTUCC website until at least June. Ziel will offer updates as information changes. The newly update Ruth Dudley Collection at John P. Webster Library will be available March 1.

Below is the letter sent Jan. 23.

Dear Patrons,

I write today with good news to share!  A new partnership has been forged with the John P. Webster Library at First Church, West Hartford.  After careful consideration and in an effort to provide the best possible stewardship of print and media resources, the Ruth Dudley Resource Center (RDRC) will become the Ruth Dudley Collection at J.P. Webster Library.

At the newly renovated J.P. Webster Library, this collection will be maintained and updated. The Director of the library Ms. Jennifer deSimas is willing and able to meet your resource needs.  Prior to joining the staff at First Church as the library director, Jennifer spent many years as an effective faith formation leader in Avon, CT.  She brings many gifts and sound experience to this role. In calling this new leader, the church imagines the library as a place for 21st century resourcing and community gatherings.  Exciting new programs are on the horizon.

I will continue to curate the faith formation pages on the CT Conference website to meet your needs for online resources.  I will continue to work with congregations and their leaders in a consulting role providing various services related to faith formation and leadership development.

I have been blessed to work with all of you as we sought together to meet your resourcing needs.

I know that our conversations will continue and that the library director and her staff will be ready and willing to serve you you when you have a need for that new Lenten study or to learn more about that favorite author’s latest book.  This collaboration will only enhance the ways in which your needs are met.

Thank you for the privilege of serving you.   Watch our website and the First Church website for information and updates about the relocation of the RDRC collection- which begins today!

In Partnership,
Karen E. Ziel
