This comes to you as the Call and invitation to the Fall Annual Meeting of the One Hundred Forty-fourth Annual Meeting of the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ (Connecticut Conference of the Congregational Christian Churches).
Remember that all sessions are open to registered visitors as well as delegates, so be sure to tell others about the events of the day!
Upon recommendation of the Annual Meeting Planning Committee the Board of Directors voted to have a one-day meeting this fall and to evaluate this action before planning the 2012 Fall Annual Meeting. The Authorized Ministers Event will be held on Friday, October 21st from Noon to 4:00 pm at the Crowne Plaza Hotel of Cromwell.
Registration is available on-line. Pre-registration for meals must be received no later than Sunday, October 16 on-line and Friday, October 14 by mail. Registration will begin at 8:00 am at First Congregational Church, Guilford. A hearing on the Resolution Declaring The Connecticut Conference To Be A Global Mission Conference In The United Church Of Christ will be held at 8:15 am. The meeting will begin with worship at 8:45 am. The Interim Conference Minister’s address will be during the morning plenary. Other highlights of the day include the Living Waters Award which will be presented to Marilyn Graham, Executive Director of HOPE, Inc. and a member of the Mystic Congregational Church; recognition of our Korean Partners; the Public Education Advocacy Team; Generous Churches; new Open and Affirming churches; and the usual budget and Conference business that comes before the Fall Annual Meeting.
The Conference Minister Search Committee will conduct listening sessions in lieu of workshops. In order to keep the groups small for the maximum participation there will be two rounds of conversations over lunch. Everyone will be assigned a time and place to participate. The Search Committee believes it is imperative that they listen to all segments of the Conference, from the delegates and authorized ministers who have offered leadership to the Conference for years, to some of the local churches’ newest members who may not have even heard of the Connecticut Conference yet. This is one of many opportunities that the Search Committee will organize to garner the widest range of voices and comments possible.
The Authorized Ministers’ Lunch will be Friday, October 21 from Noon to 4:00 pm at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell. Those attending the Authorized Ministers’ Lunch may register at that event for the Annual Meeting. Ordained ministers celebrating their 50th and 25th anniversaries of ordination will be honored at the luncheon. Keynote Speaker will be the Rev. Barbara Headley, former senior pastor of Faith Congregational Church in Hartford.

A Worship Committee, led by our Conference Preacher and Chaplain, the Rev. Ed Rawls of Stratford, has planned our worship experiences. We invite members from congregations of area churches to attend the major celebrative worship service on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 pm. An offering will be received at this worship service for the Friends of the Conference Appeal.
The following business will be discussed and acted upon:
When we assemble at First Congregational Church, Guilford, we will be the Body of Christ worshipping, praying, deliberating, and making a witness to Jesus Christ. Come prayerfully, thoughtfully, and enthusiastically to seek God’s wisdom for our common mission as the United Church of Christ in Connecticut.
Sincerely in Christ,
The Rev. Charles L. Wildman
Interim Conference Minister
