HARTFORD (09/19/2012) -- After providing greatly appreciated leadership for the Connecticut Conference delegation during the July National Youth Event, intern Mia Bryant embarked a longer journey, visiting China and Japan with Howard University classmates. She writes:
"China and Japan were amazing countries to tour. I reached new heights at the Shanghai World Financial Center, embraced cultural traditions at ancient Hindu and Buddhist temples, climbed the magnificent Great Wall of China, toured the vast Fuji Mountains, and cruised along the serene Lake Hakone. I was forced to try new foods, sleep in a bed other than my own, drive on the left side of the road -- the list goes on. By doing so, I believe I completed the mission of the trip: cultural immersion. More importantly, I learned to trust in God by not building dams in the ever-flowing rivers He has blessed me with. Countless opportunities have been placed in my path but I have ignored them due to lack of faith. Through this trip, God let me know that truly He can make a way out of no way."
Mia Bryant is a member of Faith Congregational Church UCC in Hartford, and served this summer as a Youth and Young Adult Ministries intern.
