When asked what I do for the Connecticut Conference, I’m likely to say, “If at some point, it’s supposed to turn into ones and zeroes and then back again, it’s up to me to be sure that happens.” What that has meant in actual tasks performed includes:
From July of 2006 to June of 2007, the Conference web site, www.ctucc.org, received between 7,000 and 15,000 visits a month. Visitors found regularly updated news and events listings, resources, General Synod and Annual Meeting materials, and expanding services. In June, the Conference added both blogs of staff members and the Shine On! forum service. The former allows Conference staff to quickly share their reflections with the world— if your favorite staff person hasn’t started a blog yet, let them know!—and the latter permits local church members to share their questions and experiences with each other in a way that all can refer to easily in the long term. Please: “Sign On to Shine On!”
General Synod brought special challenges, supporting the Local Arrangements Committee as they struggled with mountains of information to help recruit volunteers and then to help them do their work. Similar challenges came to the Technology Services desk in support of Silver Lake’s 50th Anniversary and Now for the Future: The Campaign for Silver Lake.
The FIDO service renewed the Spirit Calendar weekly reflection email by rotating authorship among the Conference staff. Responses to these prayers and meditations have been overwhelmingly positive. The Rev. Jim Silver added greatly to it when he kindly provided a list of Synod organizers and participants to pray for as the June event approached, so that people around the Conference prayed: no doubt it made a considerable contribution to the grand feeling of the Synod.
