Mission Project: Teacher Appreciation Bags

HARTFORD (07/10/2007) -- Many people contributed items for Teacher Appreciation Bags that were assembled for Hartford public school teachers as one of the United Church of Christ's General Synod Service Projects. "But," says Ruth Dudley Resource Center Amy Beveridge, "we ran out of supplies, and we have more bags to fill."

The project, one of the service opportunities extended to delegates and visitors to General Synod 26, aims to provide some basic supplies to Hartford school teachers when they begin classes in the fall. Bags for those teaching younger or older students contain different items.

This provides an occasion for service to local churches seeking summer mission projects, "as part of your summer church school program or Vacation Bible School," suggests Beveridge, who supports Christian Educators in the Connecticut Conference and has wide experience with CE in congregations.

The needed items are:

• Multi-Colored File Folders
• Post-It notes (3" x 3"; 100 count)
• Vinyl Coated Paper Clips, Jumbo Size, 150 count
• Hand Sanitizer (4 ounces)
• Post-It Flags (.47" x 1.7"; 20-50 count)
• 8" Shears
• Crayons (64 count boxes)
• Quality Pens
• Children's World Atlases
• College Dictionaries
