CLEVELAND (06/14/2007) -- Advance, online registration for the United Church of Christ General Synod 26, to be held in Hartford from June 22-26, will close at midnight on Sunday, June 17. Walk-in registration will be available at the Hartford Civic Center throughout the event.
In addition to the Hartford Civic Center, walk-in registration will be available at Center Church and Capital Community College between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm during Synod in the City on June 23. This day of presentations, performances, and workshops offers a rich feast of talent, opinion, theological depth, music, art, and drama, the like of which has rarely been seen anywhere.
As of May 30, over 7,100 people had registered to attend General Synod. United Church News has reported that UCC leaders believe attendance could exceed 10,000. Somewhat over 10% have registered for the one day of "Synod in the City," so that a large majority will be staying for much more of the event: which has led the Hartford Convention and Visitors Bureau to call the five-day gathering the largest convention ever to be held in Hartford.
This will also be the largest General Synod to date, as advance registrations have already exceeded the 3,300 who attended the 2003 gathering in Minneapolis.
