Synod Registration

HARTFORD (06/05/2007) -- With over one thousand volunteers registered, the Local Arrangements Committee for General Synod 26 has ended the addition of further volunteers. In the two weeks remaining before the 50th Anniversary gathering of the United Church of Christ begins, team leaders will continue working to match workers with the times and places they are needed, before the delegates and guests begin arriving on or about June 21st.

Local Arrangements Committee co-chairs the Rev. Jonathan Lee and Sue Butler-Woodward have been most gratified and grateful for the great response to the call to help. Those sentiments have been echoed by other committee leaders, by Conference Minister Davida Foy Crabtree and other staff, and by UCC Associate General Minister Edith Guffey, who has primary responsibility for Synod arrangements on the national staff. The number of Connecticut volunteers significantly exceeds that recruited for the 2005 Synod in Atlanta, Georgia.

Churches and members still looking to be involved in General Synod are welcome to participate in the Cookie Legend project; click here for more information. Most of all, they are welcome to attend Synod as visitors: to engage in worship, to rejoice in the music, and to consider the delegates' debates during the five days that the UCC gathering spends in Hartford.

Visitor registration is required to attend Synod events other than the celebration worship service on Sunday, June 24, at 3:00 pm. Of particular note are the activities on Saturday, June 23, connected with "Synod in the City," a day of workshops, performances, and speeches, including addresses from Bill Boyers and US Senator Barack Obama.
