HARTFORD (06/05/2007) -- The day-long Synod in the City event features speakers, theologians, artists, performers and multi-media presentations in a host of events, forming an inspiring and challenging mosaic of cultural voices from across the country and around the world.

• Rev. Peter Gomes, Harvard Divinity School
• Ricardo Esquivia of Justapaz in Colombia
• Ray Kurzweil, Artificial Intelligence expert/inventor
• John Hockenberry, Peabody Award-winner

• Sen. Barack Obama, 2:30 in the Civic Center
• Voices of the Pacific, gospel choir

Synod in the City is open to everyone, for the single day price of $50. The event is anchored at the Civic Center, and a variety of other accessible venues within a two-block radius in downtown Hartford, as well as Bushnell Park, where musicians, choirs and others will perform, and children’s “fun booths” will be set up. Shuttle buses will be available.
