HARTFORD (06/05/2007) -- Many of us can identify historical figures like Harriet Beecher Stowe or Horace Bushnell, but how about others of significance to our church, such as Henry Opukaha’ia, Jupiter Hammon or Gertrude Chandler Warner?
In preparation for General Synod, an interactive web site (www.ctuccheritage. org) has been developed to better acquaint us with the rich legacy of our denomination right here in Connecticut.
The home page highlights some of the historic persons, sites, institutions and events of Connecticut’s UCC (Congregational) history. It also contains a page showing many church and institutional seeds that have been planted around the country by Connecticut church people.
One page contains historical postcards depicting many of our church buildings throughout the state. Another describes a bus tour that will highlight the life of Jonathan Edwards, visiting some sites associated with him. (See event listing on page 5)
The web site will be an important resource for understanding and appreciating the contributions of our historic forebears and how they influence our lives even today.
