HARTFORD (04/19/2007) -- As Connecticut prepares to host the United Church of Christ General Synod for the first time in the denomination's fifty year history, Conference churches have a wonderful opportunity to welcome the visitors, promote awareness of the Synod, and celebrate the anniversary of the UCC. The Connecticut Conference has arranged for a special price of $140 each for congregations to purchase "We're 50 Years Bold--Let It Shine" banners to display on their church buildings.
"Imagine banners displayed on our more than 240 churches across the state," said Conference Minister Davida Foy Crabtree is a message to Conference pastors, "banners that will greet delegates, visitors, and guests to the General Synod as they arrive from all points of the compass. It's a great way to say, 'You're welcome here' and proudly identify the church as a member of the United Church of Christ."
The UCC national offices commissioned the design with a color scheme inspired by the Still Speaking Initiative, featuring the disctinctive comma in gold and adding the anniversary "Let It Shine" sunburst.
The banners are four feet wide by eight feet long, made of heavy duty 13 oz. vinyl to withstand the elements. They have been hemmed for pole pockets and grommeted for hanging. Banners can generally be delivered within a few days of ordering. In addition to the sample image on this page, Connecticut's Regional Ministers each have samples to show.
The Conference's arrangement with the vendor, DeMarce Advertising in Minnesota, is for a special price of $140 per banner, including shipping, provided Connecticut churches purchase at least 40 banners. In addition to the $25 discount, Pam DeMarce has pledged to contribute 10% of proceeds from banner sales to the God Is Still Speaking initiative.
