Set Your Ovens to BakeCookies for Synod (Goal: 14,000 dozen) |
|
Offering cookies at General Synod has become a tradition for the UCC Conference that hosts Synod. It’s a way of making our guests feel at home - and what better way to do this than to bake cookies! The Connecticut Women of the United Church of Christ (CTWUCC) are coordinating this area of hospitality to help welcome delegates and visitors to Hartford this June 22-26. We expect to serve 14,000 dozen cookies. That’s right – about 165,000 cookies! If you are one of the 60 churches that have already responded, THANK YOU! If your church has not pledged, consider yourself asked. For more information, please contact Cookie co-chairs Margie Kreitler at 860.560.1097 or margiekreitler@sbcglobal.net; or Rev. Melanie Enfield at 860.667.1779 or jtinkham@cox.net. Set your ovens to “Bake” and be a part of General Synod. Please contact us. We look forward to hearing from you. 3,208 dozen cookies have been pledged so far from 60 out of a possible 247 Churches. |

HARTFORD (04/02/2007) -- The Connecticut Conference expects to host as many as 10,000 delegates, guests and visitors from across the United Church of Christ when General Synod XXVI comes to the Hartford Civic Center this June 22-26. And we need your help to make our UCC greeting the best it can be.
I remember when I was first married the tail spin I would go into if my husband brought two guests home for dinner without my knowing ahead of time! Imagine the huge amount of planning and preparation that will go into receiving this crowd with the extravagant welcome and genuine hospitality that our President and General Minister, the Rev. John Thomas, a Connecticut native, so often talks about.
There are many areas where you can volunteer, but I’m asking you to consider being a greeter at one of the 33 hotels in and around Hartford that will house our friends in Christ. Each of the hotels will have a Synod Welcome Table. I need YOU to volunteer to be there to answer questions, solve minor problems, and just extend your hand in Christian welcome to our great Conference. Each greeter will have a packet of information to refer to at the Welcome Table. The best part is that this duty will take place before Synod actually gets underway!
To volunteer for a 4-hour shift on June 20, 21, or 22, in the afternoon or evening, please write to me at: Susan Waldron, 17 Maple Lane, Thompson, CT 06277; e-mail me at swaldron01@snet.net; or phone me at 860.923.2887. Please let me know your name, address, phone number and e-mail address (if you have one) and indicate which day and shift would be best for you. If you have a friend or partner who would be glad to assist you, give me that person’s information as well. Your help is greatly appreciated!
Sue Waldron is Co-Chair of the Local Arrangements Committee for General Synod XXVI.
