HARTFORD (03/05/2007) -- A one day Conference on environmental spirituality and action will be held at Immanuel Congregational Church in Hartford, on Thursday, June 21, 2007, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Organized by the UCC National Environmental and Energy Task Force and sponsored by Justice and Witness Ministries, this Conference will include well-known keynote speakers, including Jerome Ringo, Chairman of the Board of the National Wildlife Federation and President of the Apollo Alliance; Dr. Ben Chavis Jr. and Charles Lee, authors of the important “Toxic Waste and Race in the United States” report, published by the UCC in 1987; and others. There will be morning and afternoon workshops on some of the crucial environmental concerns facing the planet. A new report: “The UCC - Toward a National Environmental Focus” will be released.
An environmental dinner will follow the conference from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, at a location in Hartford to be confirmed.
A panel will discuss an update to the “Toxic Waste and Race in the United States” report, which will provide an opportunity to network with other UCC members and friends who share environmental concerns.
