Dean Sarah Drummond, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Andover Newton Theological School, Visiting Professor of Ministerial Leadership, Yale Divinity School
“In the early part of the 19th Century, theological controversy wracked the Protestant churches of New England. That controversy’s ‘big bang’ hurtled both Andover Newton and Yale Divinity School’s predecessor bodies into existence as we know them today. 210 years later, two schools spawned by the idea that Christians know God both through their minds and their personal experiences of spiritual enlightenment are coming together… or should we say ‘back together’?” At this year’s clergy luncheon, Sarah B. Drummond, Andover Newton’s dean and Professor of Ministerial Leadership – now in-residence at YDS – will share the early history of Andover Newton and Yale’s partnership and also describe how that partnership is taking on a new life today. Andover Newton’s move to New Haven serves as a case study on an institution thinking deeply about its core, historic mission and asking the question, ‘What is God asking of us today?’”
