Sunday School Superintendent - Durham


United Churches of Durham seeks a motivated individual committed to overall direction, development and leadership of our Sunday School (grades preK-8th) under the auspices of the Board of Christian Education and in consultation with our pastor. This is a stipend position to work 24 Sundays during the program year September - June , including planning meetings and minimal preparation work (approximately 2-3 hours week during program weeks). The stipend is $1200. Applicants can email a resume and two references to by June 12, 2017. 
Applicants must enjoy children and have experience working with many ages.  This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must be available Sunday mornings from 9:30-11:30am. Sunday School does not meet first Sundays of the month. We follow the CT District 13 Public School Calendar and are not in session on school vacations or “long weekends”.

  1. In cooperation with Board of Christian Education and pastor:
  • Recruit, orient and organize Sunday School program volunteers
  • Assist in selecting curriculum and supplies
  • Maintain Sunday School classrooms and supplies, keeping them neat and welcoming
  1. Lead the “gathering” portion of Sunday School program, introducing broad themes, scriptures, and key points 
  2. Assist weekly volunteer teachers as they facilitate activities with various age groups
  3. Promote, publicize and communicate the Sunday School programs (through weekly emails, parent publications, local media, and bulletin boards).
  4. Be responsible for the record/file maintenance of attendees and families
  5. Be a welcoming presence and contact point for new families as they enter the church
  6. Attend monthly Board of Christian Education meetings
  7. Work with the BOCE and Pastor to ensure our volunteers are Safe Conduct trained and upholding  our Safe Conduct policies.
